History

Kilmarnock Concert Brass currently exists as a community band, with the focus being on playing at local engagements, holding concerts and providing musical entertainment for the people of Ayrshire.  The band has had great success throughout the decades, since being formed in 1970.

The band supports and encourages players currently at school and learning to play to join, providing a safe, friendly environment for students to further their musical experience and abilities. It welcomes ex-players wishing to return to brass banding, and is enjoying an upsurge in interest from players and public alike.

Musical Director Scott Walker is a graduate of The University of Strathclyde, with a BA in Applied Music from 2008. During this time Scott gained invaluable professional performing and teaching experience and he is currently employed as a brass instructor with South Ayrshire Music Service.

Scott teaches in several schools each week and is also director of both the South Ayrshire Schools Brass Band and Jazz Band. Scott is still active in the brass band community playing solo cornet for current Scottish Champions The Co-op Funeralcare Band and has been Musical Director of Kilmarnock Concert Brass for the past year.
