History

The band was formed in 1850 as the Stoneywood and Auchmill Union Band and comprised members of several local paper mills. By the end of WWII the band’s name had been changed to Stoneywood Silver Band, then became UDI Brass in the early 1980s after being sponsored by local offshore company UDI. That period was a successful time for the band, with many years in the championship section.

In 1997 the band merged with the then declining Aberdeen City Band and was rebranded as Granite City Brass when UDI was bought over in 2004.

GCB has enjoyed many contest successes over the past few years including becoming Scottish first section champions in 2014 and podium finishes at the Fife Charities, Northern Counties and Scottish Challenge Shield contests.
