History

An amalgamation of the Dalkeith Burgh and Monktonhall Colliery Bands, Dalkeith and Monktonhall Band was formed in 1989.

Prior to amalgamation, both bands enjoyed financial backing from the coal industry, which dwindled in the 1980s.

The band is based in Prestonpans, East Lothian, maintains a busy annual concert and public engagement schedule and operates a training band for learners of all ages.

The band is sponsored by Prentice Coaches of Haddington and Cathcart Associates, an international recruitment agency. It also enjoys superb support from East Lothian Council and Castlepark Bowling Club in Prestonpans. The band is a supporter of the Sick Kids Friends Foundation (The Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh) by playing every year at its flagship Carols for Christmas event in St Cuthbert's Church, Edinburgh.

Dalkeith and Monktonhall has enjoyed high profile exposure in commercial theatre, appearing at the King's Theatre, Edinburgh in 2014 in the week-long touring stage production of Brassed Off and in 2015 as part of Edinburgh International Festival in the showpiece play En Avant, Marche!
