Bon-Accord ready for anniversary concert

Bon-Accord Silver Band

THE Bon-Accord Silver Band is gearing up for an annual concert in Fraserburgh - for the 40th year in a row.

Held in Fraserburgh Old Parish Church, the event first took place on November 21, 1976 when the band was invited by the Boys Brigade company to lead the parade to church for the enrolment and dedication service. Bon-Accord also featured prominently in the evening service. On Sunday, October 4, the band will return for its 40th anniversary concert.

A spokeswoman for Bon-Accord Silver Band said: "The band has formed a great friendship with the BB and the church. We are both looking forward to celebrating our special anniversary and would encourage everyone to come along and enjoy the evening."

In 1979 the BB company wanted to form a bugle band and with the help of Stewart Watson, the Bon-Accord Band's founder, they formed the bugle band. In 2000 the band commissioned a stained glass window with its logo and the Aberdeen City motto, "happy to meet, sorry to part, happy to meet again".

This year the band has commissioned composer and conductor, Alan Duguid, a former member of Bon-Accord Silver Band, to arrange a piece encompassing the hymns and music the band has played at the church during its 40 years of music making there. The piece is called Sure and Steadfast and will be played as part of the Sunday evening service, which is due to get underway at 6pm.
