Passing of David Laughland

THE death has been announced of euphonium player and conductor, David Laughland.
Counting Clydebank Burgh and Kirkintilloch among his former bands, David was regarded as a terrific musician and a wonderful bandsman. His funeral will be held on Thursday, August 6, at 11.30am at Dalnottar Crematorium.
Below is a notice from Scott Morrice, of Kirkintilloch Band:
It is with great sadness that the Kirkintilloch Band passes on its deepest condolences to Aileen Laughland and family on the passing of former Kirkie Euphonium star Davie Laughland. Davie was always a great bandsman and a great friend of the band. Amongst many contest winning performances, often contributing fabulous solos, many of the band of the late 1990s will never forget his performance of On Alderley Edge at The National Championships on October 18, 1997 in the Royal Albert Hall, when he famously pulled his solo out the top drawer and helped the band gain a tremendous 4th place finish.
His funeral will be held this Thursday, 6th August, at 11.30am at Dalnottar Crematorium. We hope to have a small group playing at the service and if anyone is able to play please drop Scott an e-mail on scomor@yahoo.com
David played with many bands and his first love was Clydebank Band, he was a star performer at many of SBBA solo and ensemble contests. Davie, you will be missed by many in Scottish banding but not more so than by current and former players at Kirkie.
Scott Morrice.
