Dalmellington Band celebrates the 69th year of their Cecil Oughton Slow Melody

2 Great Slow Melody Events!

Dalmellington Band celebrates the 69th year of their Cecil Oughton Slow Melody tradition with two more great events in Dalmellington Community Centre on Saturdays 15th and 22nd February.

Junior Slow Melody Event - 15th February at 3.30pm

Dalmellington band's young junior players will compete for an array of trophies in two sections in the Junior Slow Melody Event, which starts at 3.30pm in Dalmellington Community Centre on Saturday 15th February.

We are, once again, delighted to have a top professional musician Hedley Benson - Principal Trumpet with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra to adjudicate the young soloists in two sections, intermediate and advanced, and Hedley will play a few solos, accompanied by the junior band, in the evening concert.

Tickets for the event are just £9.00 including the competitions, a buffet meal and the evening concert.

The Top 4 soloists in the advanced section will be invited to compete against the senior band players at the senior event on February 22nd.
Audience members will be invited to predict their top 4 soloists in the advanced section and the person with the result closest to the actual adjudicators result, will win a bottle of wine!

Senior Slow Melody Event - 22nd February at 3.30pm

The 69th Annual Senior Slow Melody Event will be held in Dalmellington Community Centre on Saturday 22nd February, starting at 3.30pm.

Senior band players will compete for great prizes, including the winner's prize, the coveted Cecil Oughton Memorial Trophy and another eight prizes on the day and, we have a brand new trophy, the Robert Hill Memorial Shield, donated this year by Helen Scobie, in memory of her dad - Robert Hill, to be won by the top trombonist on the day. Robert Hill was a very fine principal trombonist with Dalmellington Band and was the first ever winner of the Cecil Oughton Slow Melody Event in 1946.

Once again, we have a brilliant soloist to adjudicate the senior event and to appear as the guest soloist in the evening concert. Ross Knight - Tuba Soloist, is recognised as the ‘rising star' tuba player in the UK at this time and he has been winning prizes all over the UK and Europe in the last two years or so and, in November 2011, he won the BBC Radio 2 - Under 21 Young Brass Player of the Year.

Tickets for the senior event are just £12.00, including the competition, a 3 course dinner and the evening concert.

Tickets for both events are available from Band Secretary - Jan Murray, who can be contacted on
Tel: 01292-264194 or by Email to: dalmellington_band_secretary@yahoo.co.uk Jan will be pleased to book your seats. Tickets to attend both events are available at the discounted price of £19.00!
