2006 Regional Test Pieces Announced

The test pieces for the 2006 regional qualifying events have been announced and a cracking bunch they are too. Because the Scottish Championships incorporate the Scottish regional qualifying contest these are the pieces that bands will be tackling at the 2006 Scottish Championships in Motherwell. The headline news is that Peter Grahams ?Journey to the Centre of the Earth? has been chosen as the Championship section piece. This work was originally composed for the Black Dyke band as their own choice test piece for the 2005 European Championships. The Black Dyke band of course went on to win that event giving a near flawless performance of Peter Grahams work. The piece itself is a demanding challenge even for the Championship section and is one that the bands will surely look forward to. A very descriptive work, perhaps MD?s, and players, should acquaint themselves with Jules Vernes original novel. The first section bands will be judged on Goff Richards ?Voyage of Discovery?. Another very descriptive work from the pen of the Cornish composer and one which will test bands in this section to the full. Another relatively recent work has been chosen for the second section, ?Images of the Millenium? by Howard Snell. The third section bands will be tackling the Gilbert Vinter work ?Entertainments? whilst the fourth section bands will be playing ?Anglian Dances? from the pen of prolific Scottish composer Alan Fernie.
