The Co launches Friends and Patrons programme
the cooperation band has launched a Friends and Patrons programme as a way for supporters to help the organisation achieve the next stages of its development.
Having played a part of Scotland’s musical life for over 100 years, the band is proud of its history, while also recognising it has a responsibility to make sure the organisation continues to grow and offer opportunities to new and up-and-coming musicians.
“Alongside the senior band’s concerts, competitions and work representing Scotland, we are developing our Youth Band and Percussion Ensemble,” explained the cooperation band manager Alan Douglas.
“These give young musicians the chance to come together, learn from experienced players, build confidence and enjoy making music. Our Youth Band is free to attend, and keeping opportunities like this accessible is something we feel strongly about.
“We also want to create more opportunities for people to stay involved in music throughout their lives, including plans for a veterans’ band in the future.”
Alan continued: “All of this takes a considerable amount of work from our players, tutors and volunteers, as well as ongoing financial support. Rehearsal space, instruments, music, transport and equipment hire are essential costs, and meeting these while planning for the future is a constant challenge.”
The Friends and Patrons programme has been designed to give people who value the band and what it does to help to build a reserve fund to strengthen its financial position and help the work towards:
A permanent home for the band, providing a stable base for rehearsals, teaching and wider activities
Replacing and upgrading instruments, giving players the equipment they need
Supporting the Youth Band and Percussion Ensemble, helping to continue and develop the opportunities available to young musicians
Managing transport, rehearsal and equipment costs, which are a significant part of keeping the organisation running
Keeping music accessible, both for those taking part and those coming along to listen.
Alan added: “The fund will be overseen by our trustees and executive team, and we will keep supporters informed about the progress we are making and how their contributions are being used.
“We know there are many worthwhile causes asking for support. If you have enjoyed one of our concerts, followed the band over the years, or simply believe in giving people the chance to make music, we would be very grateful to anyone who wishes to become a Friend or Patron.”
