Couple to host fundraising concert in aid of heart research
Husband-and-wife team Mark and Amy James are hosting a fundraising brass band concert next February, National Heart Month.
The former members of Kirkintilloch Kelvin Brass – where Mark was the musical director and Amy the principal cornet – are hoping to raise money for the Golden Jubilee University National Hospital in Glasgow, supporting research into heart failure.
It is a cause close to their hearts as Amy was diagnosed with heart failure the day before the birth of their daughter, Isla. “What should have been one of the happiest times of our lives quickly became one of the most frightening, and Amy ultimately needed a heart transplant,” said Mark.
“The concert will bring together some fantastic brass musicians from Scotland’s finest brass bands, performing a programme of music that we both love and that holds a special meaning for us.
“For us, this is about more than just a concert. It’s an opportunity to give something back to the team and the research that make second chances possible.”
Every ticket purchased and every donation made will help the couple support this vital heart research.
Mark added: “Whether you’re a brass band enthusiast, a music lover, or simply want to support a cause that can make a real difference, we would love to see you there.”
The concert will take place at the Sherbrooke Mosspark Parish Church, 240 Nithsdale Road, Glasgow G41 5AD, on Saturday 20 February, starting at 7pm.
Tickets are £10 and must be booked online in advance. Alternatively, you can purchase a ticket directly from Mark or Amy, both of whom have also played with Whitburn Band and the cooperation band respectively.
