Chris leads Northern Counties pre-contest workshop

Sunday 19 May 2024

Northern Counties Brass Band Association yesterday held a brass workshop with Chris Robertson, principal euphonium with Brighouse & Rastrick Band, which was attended by players from as far afield as the Highlands to South Aberdeenshire.

With the assistance of brass instructors from Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Music Services – Jennifer Cook, Harry Marshall, Damian Martin and Eilidh Brian – the young brass players met at 11am and by 2.30pm had prepared two pieces they had never seen before in a performance to friends and family.

Chris held a question and answer session and finished with a spectacular rendition of Carnival of Venice.

NCBBA would like to thank Besson and Euan Meikle for facilitating a Besson Artist to lead the workshop.

Association treasurer Ann Murray commented: “It has been great having Chris at the workshop and also to adjudicate today's contest. All the players have learnt something new, whether beginners with new notes and rhythms, or more experienced players who had a short session with Chris on advanced techniques.

“Our thanks also goes to the International School Aberdeen and Kent Walters for use of their facilities.”
