Saturday 18 May 2024

Congratulations to a Campbeltown Brass quartet who have won the 2024 Brass Ensemble of the Year title, beating six other groups in an online competition organised and run by Scottish Young Musicians.

The players’ prize is a Maid of Morven Trophy, designed by Scottish sculptor Alexander Stoddart, an all-expenses paid trip to play a prime spot at the Solo Performer of the Year national finals at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on Sunday 26 May and a monetary award will help to further their musical experiences.

A delighted Katrina Barr, conductor of Campbeltown Brass, commented: “We are absolutely thrilled to have won the Scottish Brass Ensemble of the Year title and I’m so proud of all the hard works that the players have put in throughout the year. We are very much looking forward to performing at the finals a week on Sunday.”

Matthew Chinn, Associate Head of the RCS Junior Conservatoire, chief adjudicator of the competition, remarked: “The judging panel received a record number of entries from across the length and breadth of Scotland.

“The quality of submissions was of an extremely high standard which is testament to the great work taking place each week in schools and local authorities across the country.”
