Joint concert takes inspiration from Shakespeare and Van Gogh

Wednesday 15 May 2024

Music which takes inspiration from the lives and works of William Shakespeare and Vincent Van Gogh will be the centrepiece of a joint concert by Dysart Colliery Silver Band and Kingdom Brass on Friday evening.

The event, which starts at the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy at 7.30pm, has been organised by the Burntisland & Kingdom Rotary to raise funds for the local foodbank.

The bands have been working hard to put together an exciting and original programme including a finale of the massed bands and a showcase performance by Kingdom Youth Band.

Dysart will be performing music inspired by Shakespeare’s words for a musical journey from Mendelssohn to Taylor Swift and including an original work by Andrew Baker.

Kingdom has been working creatively with Spotlight actor Elizabeth McNally on a new piece of music theatre called VINCENT, creating a 30-minute suite for brass band and actor. The performance pairs original music for brass and dialogue by Elizabeth, telling the story of the turbulent and incredible life of Van Gogh, as told through the eyes of his sister-in-law Jo Van Gogh.

See poster for details on how to purchase tickets.
