David Fehilly steps down as Coalburn Bronze MD

Thursday 28 March 2024

David Fehilly, musical director of Coalburn Bronze Band, is to step down after an incredible eight years at the helm of the thriving youth and adult beginners’ band.

David has been involved with the Coalburn Brass Band Family for many years, not only as a player in the Silver Band, but also as MD of both the Intermediate and Bronze Bands. Due to a change in his career path he has had to step away from some of his commitments within the organisation.

President Alan Court said: “We are truly sorry to lose David as he has been an inspiration to all the members of the band. His incredible personality and talent shines through and he always gets the best from the players.

“We are so thankful for the investment in time and commitment that he has given to the band over the years. We are now keen to find a replacement as soon as possible and now invite applications for the position of MD.”

The Bronze Band rehearses in Coalburn on Wednesday evenings (term time) between 6.30 and 8.30pm and has around 25 youngsters and adult beginners attending regularly. The band performs in competitions, concerts and other engagements throughout the year.

Applications, in the strictest confidence, should be made by emailing Alan Court at president@coalburnbrassbandfamily.co.uk  no later than Friday 5 April with auditions commencing 17 April.

More information can be obtained by contacting the Bronze Band coordinator Debbie Court on 07403 676029.

A delighted David Fehilly on stage at last year's Scottish Youth Brass Band Championships as Coalburn Bronze Band is presented with a Gold Award
