Lochgelly's anniversary plans to expand organisation

Tuesday 27 February 2024

Now in its 170th anniversary year, Lochgelly Band is extending its organisation with the addition of two new musical groups.

With the slogan of ‘honouring the past, celebrating the present and looking forward to the future’, the band will be launching Lochgelly Community Brass and the Central Scotland Percussion Ensemble.

Lochgelly Community Brass will be the band’s new development ensemble through which it will provide group and individual tuition to people of all ages within the local community interested in learning a brass instrument.

Central Scotland Percussion Ensemble, led by the Lochgelly percussion team, will offer experienced percussion players from across Central Scotland the opportunity to come together to rehearse, collaborate and perform, both in the community and on the concert and contest platform.

The ongoing restoration of Lochgelly’s band hall will help to safeguard the future of the organisation and the formation of a youth/community ensemble and the addition of a brand-new percussion ensemble is testament to the hard work of everyone involved so far.

“We are delighted our plans and ideas are starting to come to fruition and we can’t wait to share more news with you as things develop,” says principal cornet Lynsey McIlwraith.
