Alan needs help with finding 60 years old Scottish test piece

Calling all band librarians – Alan Fernie needs your help! The renowned Scottish composer, musical director, player and tutor is looking for a piece of music that was the Third Section test work for the Scottish Championships in 1962.

Three Characteristic Pieces, written by Adam Carse in 1961, has been out of print for some time, but Alan would like a full set of the music for a special project he is working on.

The now-defunct Gartsherrie Silver was the winning Third Section band, playing the piece, in the 1962 Scottish Championships.

“I’m hopeful that the piece is lurking at the back of a band’s library,” he said.
