Gordon gets his SBBA life membership for his service to banding

Wednesday 27 December 2023

Members of St Ronan's Silver Band are delighted to see bass trombone player Gordon Burns receive his life membership of the Scottish Brass Band Association in recognition of 50 years’ continuous service to brass banding.

Gordon first joined Monktonhall Colliery Band in 1973 and, after a subsequent five-year spell with Bo'ness & Carriden, he returned to the band which was to merge with another local band to become Dalkeith & Monktonhall Brass Band in 1989.

He remained with D&M until he transferred to St Ronan’s in 2004. Since then he has made a significant contribution to the band with his sonorous bass trombone sound, having taken part in many successful contest and concert performances.

Gordon was presented with his life membership medal at the band's Christmas concert by his friend and long-term playing colleague, David Richardson.

Everyone at St Ronan's congratulates Gordon on his achievement and look forward to many more years of playing together.
