Christmas concert surprise for Dalkeith & Monktonhall chairman

Congratulations to Dalkeith & Monktonhall Band chairman and second trombonist Jim Henderson on receiving his life membership medal from the Scottish Brass Band Association for more than 50 years service to brass banding.

He was presented with his award by band manager and principal cornet Karen Chamberlain at D&M’s Christmas concert last night (below).

Jim started playing at the age of 12 with Monktonhall Band in 1970. Since the amalgamation with Dalkeith in 1989, he has been the band’s second trombone player and chairman.

Commented Jim’s wife and band secretary Heather: “The award was a total surprise to him and for once he was lost for words!”
