Chris Shanks to work with St Ronan’s for Scottish Championships

Thursday 30 November 2023

St Ronan's Silver Band has announced that it will be working with Besson Artist Chris Shanks in preparation for the Scottish Championships in March.

Chris will work alongside resident conductor Davie Frame as the band tackles Christopher Bond’s work Corineus.

“Having suggested that a joint approach to the Scottish Championships was the best way forward, there was only one person I thought of to work with,” said Davie.

“As a player at Kinneil under Chris's direction, I realised very quickly that we were lucky to have one of the finest young conductors around.  St Ronan’s will benefit immensely – as will I – from his expertise and incredible commitment.”

Well-known soloist, teacher, conductor and Whitburn Band euphonium player, Chris is equally excited about this new association, saying: “I am really looking forward to working with the band and Davie as we prepare for the Scottish Championships.”

The contest will be St Ronan's first foray into the Third Section since 2013. “All of the players are looking forward to the challenge,” commented band secretary Keith Belleville. “In Chris and Davie we have a fantastic team with bags of energy, enthusiasm and expertise, so we are delighted with this new arrangement.”

To complete the line-up for the March contest, the band is looking to recruit a front row cornet player (position negotiable). Anyone who is interested should get in touch by email to secretary@stronanssilverband.org
