Kilmarnock Concert Brass in search for new musical director

Wednesday 11 October 2023

The search is on for a new musical director for Kilmarnock Concert Brass following the decision by Scott Walker to step down from the position after the Scottish Challenge contest next month.

In the eight years he has been in charge, Scott has led the band from a non-contesting outfit of 12 players through to Second Section status. “I’ve had a great time with the band and I’m so proud of what we have achieved together,” he said.

KCB rehearses once a week, on a Sunday evening, with additional mid-week practices in the run-up to contests and major concerts.

The band boasts a full quota of players, whose ages from 14 to over 70, with a mix of youthful enthusiasm and senior experience.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and forward thinking in rehearsal planning, repertoire selection and programme creation. A sense of humour and experience of working with brass bands is essential.

Anyone interested in the position should email band chairperson Tracy Rutherford at calderwoodtracy@aol.com in the first instance. All applications will be treated in the strictest confidence.
