Town band celebrates 150th anniversary in joint concert with male voice choir

Monday 25 September 2023

The sound of voice and brass will feature in a celebratory concert on Saturday evening when Dumfries Town Band joins forces with the town’s men’s choir to mark its 150th anniversary.

The band and the Dumfries Male Voice Choir will be their staging joint concert at Dumfries Baptist Church, Gillbrae Road DG1 4EJ, starting at 7pm.

Dumfries Town Band was formed in 1873 when a group of musicians got together with the support of the town council.

Among the more recent highlights of its illustrious history are the playing for Royalty on a number of occasions – for the visit of the late Queen and Prince Philip to the town in 1993, for Prince Charles in 2000 and for the official opening of the DG1 leisure complex in 2008 when Princess Anne was in attendance.

The band is a very busy organisation, playing for many local gala days and festivals during the summer, including the town’s Guid Nychburris week of celebrations, and in various concerts and park engagements.

Tickets for the concert are priced at £10 each which can be reserved by contacting Jordan Tweedie or Paul Rafferty and they are available on the door.
