Kirkie top of the tree in Troon

Saturday 26 August 2023

Well done to The Kirkintilloch Band on winning the West of Scotland Entertainment Contest in fine style.

The first section band beat two championship outfits to take the top prize in the Walker Halls, Troon.

Kirkie’s winning programme opened up with Four Minute Mile, composed by Judith Bingham. There then followed a quintet for two baritones and three trombones, entitled Emendemus in Melius (William Byrd).

Get Happy and Over the Rainbow from the Judy Garland Suite (arr. Andy Austin) came next before a rendition of Morten Lauridsen’s O Magnum Mysterium.

Phoenix from War of the Worlds by Peter Graham brought the programme to a rousing conclusion.
