Johnstone Band set for summer serenade

Saturday 18 June 2022

Next Tuesday is Make Music Day UK and, to mark the occasion, after more than two years of being unable to perform in front of a live audience, Johnstone Band is preparing to strike up with a free evening concert.

The band’s summer serenade will see the Renfrewshire outfit take to the stage at Johnstone Castle Community Learning Centre, Pine Crescent, from 7.30pm.

On the programme will be a diverse range of repertoire, including several solo performances.

Looking ahead to the evening, musical director Mark Good commented: “After the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been a wonderful feeling to get back into the bandroom with Johnstone Band to make music together.

“Performing to an audience is what banding is all about and we can’t wait for what promises to be an exciting evening of music making – and best of all, it’s absolutely free.”

Johnstone Band secured its status in the elite level of brass banding after retaining its position in the Championship Section at the Scottish Championships at Perth in March.

After a short summer break, members of the band are looking forward to a busy second half of 2022, with a string of contests and concerts in the pipeline.
