Lochgelly will literally raise the roof thanks to lottery boost!

Thursday 3 June 2021

Lochgelly Band is delighted to announce that it has been successful in its recent application for funding from the People’s Postcode Trust.

The trust, which is funded by Players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, supports smaller charities and good causes in Scotland to make a difference to their community for the benefit of people and planet.

The band is thrilled to have been awarded £20,000 and intends to put this money towards some badly needed repair and refurbishment work on their much loved (but very tired and in need of TLC) band hall.

Lochgelly has been using time out during the lockdown to explore various fundraising opportunities to drastically improve their rehearsal facilities. The refurbishment will now start with some urgent repairs to the band hall roof next month.

Band chairman David Macluskey says: “Lochgelly Band is woven into the fabric of the local community. The band has worked extremely hard over the past few years – in particular during the COVID pandemic – to raise funds to rescue our hall, not just to house the current band but to safeguard its future for years to come, but also to continue to promote our culture in the local community and, in the near future, bring new opportunities for local young musicians.”

But the journey doesn’t end there. The band has also been successful in other fundraising efforts in recent month with donations raised from their virtual lockdown performances, support from Fife Council, some smaller but just as crucial funding initiatives and a number of other opportunities in the pipeline. Project New Band Hall is now firmly set to ‘go’ for Lochgelly Band!
