Make Championships a weekend to remember!

Tuesday 25 February 2020

Some 1500 brass musicians from 54 bands will be descending on the Concert Hall in Perth over the weekend of 7/8 March to not only compete for the honour of representing Scotland at the National Brass Band Championships later this year, but also to celebrate a milestone anniversary of music making.

The Scottish Brass Band Association marks its 125th anniversary in 2020 and the Perth contest is just one of a programme of monthly events to commemorate this special year.

2020 Scottish Intermediate Solo Champion Andrew McMillan will perform a solo before the Section 3 results on the Saturday and, the following day, Holly Bennett, the current Youth Solo Champion will perform a solo before the Section 4 results.

Tickets to the event in Perth can be bought at the Concert Hall on the Saturday and Sunday, priced at £13.50 (concessions £11.50) including £1.50 booking fee per ticket per day.

Current Scottish Championships title holders are the cooperation band from Glasgow (championship), Kirkintilloch (first section), Newmains & District (second), Irvine & Dreghorn (third) and Barrhead Burgh (fourth).

SBBA president Carrie Boax is encouraging all Scottish bandspeople to make this weekend one to remember. “Get involved and share what’s happening as part of your Scottish Championships 2020 journey!” she says. “We want to see your photos and comments. Find us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @TheSBBA  – tag us and use the hashtags #sbbaevents #sbbavolunteers #sbbaeducates.”
