Kirkintilloch Band boosts the ranks ahead of busy schedule

Tuesday 22 August 2017

The Kirkintilloch Band has announced details of six new signings as it continues to prepare for its annual concert in October and Scottish Open contest in November later this year.

Joining the ranks are Trevor Gray on flugel horn and Katherine Adams on repiano cornet. Owen Pickering, fresh from a successful week at the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) Summer Course where he was awarded Best Student, joins on bass trombone while the bass section will be supplemented with James Tavares on Eb and Alistair Boag on Bb. Also making the move to the East Dunbartonshire outfit is Cameron Laird on cornet.

Kirkintilloch Band Secretary Ian Squince commented: “We are delighted with the new players that have recently joined the band, all of whom will help strengthen Kirkintilloch in much-needed areas.”

The band is now working hard and looking forward to its Annual Concert on 27 October, followed by the Scottish Open in November. The concert will feature guest soloist Steve Stewart on soprano, making a welcome appearance with Kirkintilloch as he manages to find a break in his busy schedule with world number one band, Cory.

The event will be held at Bishopbriggs Academy with a 7.30pm start and will also feature a concert segment from the Kirkintilloch Youth Band. Admission will be £5.00 (£3.00 for concessions).
