Another £6500 funding announced for Borders events
Hot on the heels of its last funding announcement, the Scottish Borders Brass Band Association (SBBBA) has secured a further £6500 in financial backing from the Weir Charitable Trust to support key brass music initiatives across the region.
The funding will be allocated as follows:
• Borders Entertainment Contest (£2500): This popular annual competition brings together brass bands from Sections 2 to 4 across Scotland and beyond to perform engaging programmes focused on entertaining audiences. The contest is a highlight of the regional brass calendar and offers valuable performance opportunities for bands of all levels.
• Youth Brass and Percussion Workshops (£3000): These long-established full-day workshops support young brass and percussion players aged 8 to 21 across the Borders. Led by experienced conductors and professional musicians, the sessions focus on developing musical skills, playing together and making lasting friendships.
• Youth Solo and Ensemble Contest (£1000): This event provides a platform for young musicians to perform solo and in small groups, encouraging individual growth and confidence. Held each February, it offers a supportive environment for players to gain performance experience and recognition.
SBBBA chairman Stuart Black commented: “We are thrilled to have received this funding from the the Weir Charitable Trust and we thank them for their support that allows us to run three of our biggest events.”
