Funding boost for youth brass workshops in the Scottish Borders

The Scottish Borders Brass Band Association (SBBBA) has announced it has secured £2600 in funding from the Hayward Sanderson Trust to support its long-running youth brass and percussion workshops.

The funding helped to deliver the March workshop and will support the follow-up event planned for September which is open to young musicians aged 8 to 21 from across the region.

Led by experienced conductors and musicians, the workshops offer a full day of playing music, developing skills and meeting others with a shared passion for brass and percussion.

Players are grouped by ability: C Band – beginners, B Band – intermediate, and A Band – Scottish Borders youth brass band which has in the past proudly represented the region at the Scottish Youth Brass Band Championships, winning the contest five times, and represented Scotland at the European Youth Championships in 2017.

Stuart Black, SBBBA chairman, said: “We are thrilled to have received this funding from the Hayward Sanderson Trust and are incredibly grateful to them for supporting our workshops.

“These events are something we love providing for the brass scene in our area and with the benefits they bring not only musically, but socially too."

The next workshop will take place on Sunday 21 September. For more information on these events and workshops, please contact sbbba2020@gmail.com
