Bolivian band will put brass into playing carnival music

Are you a fan of Bolivian and Latin American music? You could be in luck as a gent called Leo Parrado-Mccabe is looking to form a group of brass / wind instrumentalists in Edinburgh – like the one pictured – who enjoy playing carnival-style music.

Leo says: “I would love for the band to take off so we can spread the Bolivian and Latin American culture around Edinburgh and maybe even further afield. I like to see people enjoying themselves and having a great time while producing music for all to enjoy.”

Leo, who is half Bolivian, got together with a few friends last year and decided to start up a brass band that plays Bolivian carnival music in the Scottish capital city.

“I went to Bolivia for a carnival last year and saw hundreds of bands perform live – and that’s what inspired me to create a band here in Edinburgh that plays carnival-style music for galas, parades, weddings and private parties,” he said.

The kind of instruments Leo is looking for include trumpet, baritone horn, trombone, sousaphone, saxophone, snare and bass drum and marching cymbals.

“I started recruiting interested players in June last year,” Leo added. “We have five musicians, of varying ages and abilities, who are serious in giving it a go but more than anything it's about having fun and being yourself.”

If you would like to give Bolivian music a go and you are located in or near Edinburgh, get in touch with Leo at banda.espectacular.escocia@gmail.com
