Sad passing of Barrhead stalwart-funeral details

It is with much sadness that I have to announce the passing of John (Johnny) Farrell on Saturday 30th September.

Johnny was the longest ever serving player with the Barrhead Burgh Band having joined the band in 1951 at the age of 14 and played with the band up to a few years ago until ill health forced him to retire.

For many years he played at the Remembrance Day services in Cowan Park, Barrhead and the Kelvingrove Park. He also played with the 5th/6th Highland Light Infantry and 1st Battalion Cameronians as a bugler/drummer. As a player, he had an incredible record of playing at 45 Scottish Championships and 10 National Finals.

In 2001 he received his Life Membership Medal from the Scottish Brass Association for his 50 years service to the band.

Funeral arrangements.
Wednesday 11th October. 9.30 am St John's Church Barrhead. Woodside Crematorium, Paisley 11.00 am
