Charity concert to be held in memory of Joan Price

A charity concert is being organised in memory of popular Ayrshire trombonist Joan Price who died in a tragic road traffic accident on 30 January 2017.

The concert, which will be held at Kyle Academy Theatre in Ayr on Saturday 2 September, will feature entertainment programmes from the three bands with which Joan was associated over the years - Kilmarnock Concert Brass, Irvine and Dreghorn and Dunaskin Doon.

Paying tribute to Joan’s memory, Dunaskin Doon Secretary Fiona Waddington commented: “Joan’s untimely death left all who knew her devastated and heartbroken. Joan did everything with a huge smile on her face. She was, quite simply, a wonderful person - generous, kind, warm and encouraging with a beautiful spirit. Everyone at Dunaskin loved Joan dearly and feels her loss keenly - she was the cool band “auntie”, a great source of encouragement and guidance for younger members, and always someone you could count on for good, sound advice and a welcoming ear.”

Fiona continued: “On behalf of Dunaskin Doon Band, Joan’s family, Gillian and her family, the committee cannot thank you all enough for your kind words of support and encouragement, for the many offers of help in the lead up to Joan’s funeral and at band commitments beyond that, and for the numerous cards and well wishes received. Gillian Kay continues to show grit and determination, making slow, steady progress in her fight to full recovery.”

Every single penny raised on the night of the concert will go towards Brake, the road safety charity, as nominated by Joan’s husband Colin and the family. Brake work with nurseries, schools and colleges to educate young people of all ages about the dangers on the roads, whether driving or as a pedestrian. Brake also work with victims of road traffic accidents, and provide valuable counselling services to those families affected by the injury or death of a loved one as the result of a road traffic accident.

Fiona concluded: “Please join us on what will be a very special night of music, friendship, camaraderie and memories celebrating the life of a wonderful lady.

Tickets are priced at £5 and are available from band members or by emailing secretary@ddband.co.uk.”
