New Resident Conductor takes over at Kirkintilloch
The Kirkintilloch Band is delighted to announce that Ray Munday has agreed to take on the role of resident conductor at the Championship Section band with immediate effect.
Ray, who moved to Scotland in 1986 to continue his freelance orchestral career, has had spells playing at Whitburn, CWS (Glasgow), Clackmannan District and Kingdom Brass.
As Kirkintilloch Band and Ray Munday start out on this new journey together, Ray hopes to put to good practice some of the experiences and influences he has enjoyed throughout his playing career, citing Major Peter Parkes and Howard Snell as two examples. Ray commented: “Few words are needed about the “Major”, a gentleman of the highest order. Rehearsals were always ordered and musical. He didn’t need to command the respect, it was given freely. Howard Snell was a totally different proposition. Detail, with precision, accuracy and clarity. It was never dull with Snell around - on stage it was electric.”

Kirkintilloch Band spokesman Ian Squince commented: “In the short time he has been with us, Ray has brought a notable air of music ability, enthusiasm and knowledge of banding to our rehearsals. This, mixed with both his and the bands obvious enthusiasm for the situation, will hopefully prove to form a winning combination.”
Looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead, Ray added: “The band is working very hard at present and along with the band management team we are hoping once again that Kirkintilloch Band will take its rightful place in the upper echelons of Scottish banding.”
Kirkintilloch is now preparing hard for The Grand Shield contest on May 13 at The Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
