Newland supporter celebrates birthday milestone

Nancy Lowe celebrated her 100th birthday

A WEST Lothian woman has celebrated her 100th birthday in style by receiving her very own brass band concert.

Newland Concert Brass surprised Nancy Lowe while she was out marking the occasion with family and friends at the Fairway Hotel in Bathgate

Three of Nancy's grandchildren are members of the band and she has been to many brass band concerts over the years. Another of her grandchildren plays trumpet and a great grandchild plays tenor horn. Nancy's late husband Peter Lowe was a member of the Bathgate Band more than 40 years ago and he received his 50 year membership medal from the Scottish Brass Band Association (SBBA). After living in Bathgate for over 70 years, Nancy moved to Linlithgow Care Home in April 2015 and Newland Junior Band entertained the residents in October.

The birthday girl told local newspaper, the West Lothian Courier, the secret to a long and healthy life is a bowl of porridge every morning - but her family members feel regularly enjoying the sound of brass has also been key to her longevity.

The celebrations come ahead of the next event for Newland Concert Brass, which is its Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 13 at 7pm in St John's Church, Bathgate.
