Whitburn welcomes new solo euphonium

Scott Kerr

FOLLOWING on from its second successive Scottish Open Championship victory and a highly successful run in Edinburgh with the Rambert Dance Company on Gavin Higgins' Dark Arteries, Whitburn Band has announced the signing of a new solo euphonium player.

Filling the position with immediate effect is Scott Kerr, who joins the band following three successful years with Co-operative Funeralcare Band. Scott will work alongside Whitburn's Musical Adviser and Professional Conductor, Professor Nicholas Childs, whilst he also completes his masters degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Speaking about Scott's appointment, Professor Childs commented: "I first heard Scott some years ago and have watched his development with excitement. A talented and very gifted player, I'm sure he will be a great asset to Whitburn, who share the same ethos of desire and ambition."

Looking forward to getting started with the band, Scott Kerr added: "I am really excited about working with such a musically diverse and forward thinking band. I have always admired their ambition and progression within our movement and am looking forward to being a part of this tight-knit team.

"It was a hard decision to leave a band I love and I wish the Co-op's players every success in the future. Exciting things are ahead as I start a new banding chapter with Whitburn."

Whitburn Band looks forward to starting preparations for an intense eight-week period during which it will defend the Scottish Championship title, make another assault on qualifying for the British Open and travel to Lille in France to represent Scotland at the European Championships.
