Whitburn set for Cumnock Tryst

THE Whitburn Band is preparing to raise the curtain on a prestigious music festival as the 2015 Cumnock Tryst draws closer.
Audience members will be able to hear the Scottish champions in action during the opening concert on Thursday, October 1. Paul Lovatt-Cooper is due to conduct while festival founder, Sir James MacMillan, will take the baton in a performance of his own Canite Tuba. Music from Lovatt-Cooper is also set to feature, as is repertoire from Gilbert Vinter and Ayrshire composer Peter Graham.
Sir James MacMillan commented: "I am looking forward to conducting my Canite Tuba with Whitburn Band and hearing other new pieces by living composers. The mixture of this with lighter band works will start the festival with a roar.
"I'm especially pleased that the work of fellow Ayrshire composer Peter Graham will also feature in this concert."
The concert is due to get underway at 7.30pm in Cumnock Town Hall. Tickets cost £16 or £10 for under 26s and local residents. They are available by logging on to the East Ayrshire Leisure website.
