A SUCCESSFUL year has continued for Irvine and Dreghorn Band (IDB) after a top-half finish at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.

The Ayrshire band, conducted by Helen Douthwaite, came eighth in the third section of the competition with its performance of set work The Graces of Love, by Oliver Waespi. Held in Cheltenham on September 20, the section also featured fellow Scottish outfit Renfrew Burgh Band, which finished in sixth place.

Dawn Spence, solo euphonium player with IDB, said: "The Graces of Love is very emotive as well as exciting, and we've really enjoyed it.

"We are absolutely thrilled with the result. It was a fantastic effort which stands the band in good stead ahead of its move to the second section in January 2016."
