Scottish bands set for Cheltenham

SCOTTISH brass bands are preparing to set off for Cheltenham to take part in the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.
Two bands each from sections one to four will compete at the contest, which is being held at The Centaur on September 19 and 20.
Newtongrange Silver will compete in the first section alongside Unison Kinneil, performing Kenneth Hesketh's work The Alchymist's Journal. Second section bands will tackle Stephen Roberts' The Snaring of the Sun, with Croy Silver and Jedforest Instrumental bands making the trip south. Meanwhile, Renfrew Burgh Band is joined by Irvine and Dreghorn to compete in the third section on The Graces of Love, by Oliver Waespi. In the fourth section, Whitburn Heartlands and MacTaggart Scott Loanhead will travel to Cheltenham to play Visions, by Dan Price.
Carrie Boax, president of the Scottish Brass Band Association (SBBA), said: "I would like to wish all of the Scottish bands travelling to Cheltenham the very best of luck for the National Brass Band Championships.
"Every member of every band will have put in hundreds of hours of work to ensure they are ready to compete at the National FInals, which is to their credit. I know we have tremendous ambassadors for the Scottish brass band scene right across sections one to four ready to make their home towns proud.
"Good luck to everyone and enjoy your weekend."
