Lochgelly Band announces new MD

THE Lochgelly Band has announced the appointment of Paul McKelvie OBE as its new Musical Director.
No stranger to the band, Paul helped Lochgelly to a winning performance of A Moorside Suite at the Scottish Championships in 2010 before enjoying a third place finish in the championship section contest the following year while playing trombone. He then retired from playing and decided to take up the baton.
John Martin, chairman of Lochgelly Band, said: "We have kept an eye on Paul's progression after his transition into conducting over the last few years and have been very impressed. He had taken a few rehearsals with us during his time as a player and we were in no doubt, even then, that he had the ability and demeanor to make that transition seamlessly.
"Paul not only brings a vast musical ability from his extensive playing and conducting career in brass bands, orchestras and other ensembles, but also a wealth of knowledge from his working life as an experienced training and development professional. The two combined provide an excellent style of musical direction and band training which make for a hard working but fun and enjoyable rehearsal environment. This will no doubt pay dividends for our band's development."
