Renfrew set for trip back in time

Renfrew Burgh Band

THE Renfrew Burgh Band is preparing to take part in a celebration of the town's heritage as it comes to the big screen.

Renfrew On Film will feature rarely-seen footage of the town's industrial and cultural past, with a narration from local historians and live music from Renfrew Burgh Band, conducted by Mark Good.

The event in Renfrew Town Hall is taking place on Wednesday, June 3, as part of the build-up to Renfrew Gala Day and is a collaboration between Renfrewshire Arts and Museums, Renfrew Museum Group and Renfrew Burgh Band. Films have been sourced from Renfrewshire Council, Doosan / Babcocks, and the Scottish Screen Archive as well as new films by the Camcorder Club and local filmmaker Paul Russell.

Richard Weeks, new media worker with Renfrewshire Council, said: "As a significant part of the build up to Renfrew Gala Day 2015, the event promises to be a highlight in Renfrew's cultural calendar.

"The event culminates in a newly commissioned film from the Renfrew Development Trust which highlights not only the rich history, culture and industry of the Royal Burgh but maps out exciting new directions for the town."

Renfrew On Film is due to begin at 7pm on June 3. Free tickets are available in advance from Renfrew Town Hall.
