Fife Brass Band Festival: Results

Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline

WINNING bands have celebrated following the 2015 Fife Brass Band Festival (FBBF).

Held in Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline, the event saw 12 bands taking part on Saturday, April 25, in an attempt to impress adjudicator Nigel Boddice MBE.

Taking the first section prize was Johnstone Band under the baton of Martyn Ramsay while there were also victories for Shotts St Patrick's, Barrhead Burgh and Penicuik Silver Band in the contest organised by the FBBF committee.

Addressing the audience prior to the results, Mr Boddice reflected on what he said had been a relaxed and enjoyable day of music making. He praised the bands for their choice of repertoire, adding that there was always room to add more shape to musical lines. "If it's marked piano for 30 bars, should you play piano for 30 bars?" he commented.

Formerly known as the Carnegie contest, the event was renamed the FBBF in 2004 after the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust announced it was reviewing its grant funding of local organisations. It continues to take place on an annual basis in the town's Carnegie Hall and bands from across the UK are welcome to take part.
