Kirkintilloch to perform at Tectonics 2015

THE Kirkintilloch Band is preparing to perform at the 2015 Tectonics Festival along with brass players from one of Scotland's finest professional orchestras.
Held in Glasgow's Old Fruitmarket, the event will feature brass players from the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (BBC SSO) along with members of the Gorbals Youth Brass Band in a new work by Hild Sofie Tafjord. Entitled Mural, the site-specific piece is scored for a large brass band, electronics and French horn, with performers conjuring a moving and shifting wall of sound which will appear and disappear, changing and evolving as it moves around the space.
The work will feature the brass groups replicating the electronic sounds, interspersed with concert G drones, and does not follow a traditional score. Each brass group will be situated in separate parts of the hall.
Andy Robson, solo euphonium player with Kirkintilloch Band, commented: "We are delighted to be invited to perform with members of the BBC SSO in what should be an exciting event.
"The band always welcomes the chance to perform with other ensembles and we are thrilled to be involved with such a new and innovative piece of music. We're looking forward to an enjoyable afternoon of music making which should be musically interesting and a fun experience at the same time."
The world premiere of Hild Sofie Tafjord's Mural is due to take place on Sunday, May 3, at 3pm in The Foyer and Old Fruitmarket, City Halls, Glasgow. More information is available by logging on to the Glasgow Concert Halls website.
