THE European Brass Band Association (EBBA) has released its updated and renewed website.

EBBA is announcing the test-pieces and line-up of competitors at this year's European Brass Band Championships and European Youth Brass Band Contest, to be held at the Konzerthaus in Freiburg, Germany from 1-3 May. The list of talented young players in the European Youth Brass Band is also being released.

Test pieces:
The test-piece for the Championship Section is The God Particle by Rolf Rudin, a piece part-inspired by the search for the so-called ‘God Particle' that led to the construction of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland and the recent discovery of the Higgs-Boson particle.

Bands in the Challenge Section will perform Origenes (sub-titled Ursprünge/Provenance) by Carlos Cardenas, a work that owes much to the composer's roots in South America and utilises a range of Latin rhythms and extensive percussive effects.

For information about the composers: https://www.rudin.de/index.html and enclosed previously issued press release.

Bands in the Premier Section of the European Youth Brass Band Contest will perform Arcana by Belgian composer Kevin Houben. This is ten-minute piece was the first prize winner at EBBA's European Composers Competition in 2006. The test-piece for the Development Section is Patterns by Edward Gregson, a six-minute piece originally commissioned for the National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain in 1974.

Band line-up for European Brass Band Championships and European Youth Brass Band Contest:

"Yet again we are delighted with the standard of bands that will be representing their respective nations at the European Brass Band Championships in Freiburg. For the first time in many years, we have a full complement of bands in both the Championship and Challenge sections, with a total of 18 performing in competition. It promises to be a fabulous presentation of the European Championships, as has been demonstrated by the rate at which tickets have been sold for all of the weekend's events."

"It also of great satisfaction that the European Youth Brass Band Contest has attracted a good number of entries for its second presentation, following the inaugural event in Perth last year. We hope that this event will grow further in forthcoming years and will play a role in the development of youth brass banding throughout Europe."

The European Youth Brass Band will be together from April 25 to May 3 with 36 talented players from 14 different countries.
