DALKEITH AND MONKTONHALL COLLIERY BAND \'Brassed Off\' in 2014
DALKEITH AND MONKTONHALL COLLIERY BAND have been invited to work closely with the Touring Theatre Consortium during 2014 in their UK production of the stage play 'Brassed Off'.
The band have been asked by the play's Director and production staff to 'play the role' of Grimley Colliery Band when the stage show visits the Kings Theatre, Edinburgh, in April 2014.
The 'job' consists of the band playing live on stage in all of the performances, playing many of the favourite tunes that were featured in the original movie. The band's ranks will be bolstered by actors during the performances including of course the flugel player 'Gloria' who plays the famous Rodriguez Concerto d'Aranjuez ('Orange Juice').
Rehearsals for the event are scheduled well in advance, with choreography sessions including a 'marching' scene planned for January next year.
It is thought that the event will mark the play's first ever performance in Scotland.
The band can be heard at their concerts throughout the year. Next performances are in Haddingtom West Church on 23 May, and a joint concert with Kidlington Band (Oxfordshire) in St Mary's Church in Dalkeith Park on 30th May.
