Tullis Russell to play at new Festival launch

Fife is celebrating its first year of involvement with the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival by creating a vibrant and varied range of events throughout October featuring music, exhibitions, words, film, comedy and drama.
Jointly funded by Fife Council and NHS Fife, the Festival gets people thinking and talking about mental health, but most of all celebrates getting creative and connecting with others to improve EVERYONE'S mental health and wellbeing - whether you're aged 1 or 101. This year's theme is ‘Memory, Sleep and Dreams' and many of the events have taken those themes as their inspiration. The Festival launches on Thursday 22nd September with a free event at Trinity Church in Cowdenbeath from 7.30pm.
Festival Co-ordinator Shona Davidson explained more: "The Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival is now in its fifth year, but this is the first year that Fife have become fully involved and there will be something for everyone to enjoy. It's all about getting creative and getting connected. Our Launch Event will be a unique opportunity to see and hear the Tullis Russell Mills Band, singer Grace Black and Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra in an evening celebrating how music brings people together and lifts your spirits. You'll also have the chance to look round display stands providing information on mental well-being and find out more about this year's exciting Festival events.
Working on the challenge of the festivals theme of memory, sleep & dreams the bands musical director Martyn Ramsay has come up with a very exciting programme which should have something for everyone at the launch concert.
Various events are planned throughout Fife during the festival which runs throughout October and the Tullis Russell Mills Band will host a very special concert in their own band hall at the Woodside Community Centre, Glenrothes on Sat 22nd October called "Brass Dreams come true" where for the first time all three bands within the Tullis Russell organisation will play, starting with the Tullis Russell Youth Band, followed by the Tullis Russell Intermediate Band and then finishing off with the Tullis Russell Mills Band. Anyone looking for more information about any of these events should visit the bands website at www.trmb.co.uk for more details.
