Broxburn and Livingston Band is to hold a special fundraising concert on Friday 16 September.

On this occasion, the concert will be unique in it's presentation, as the band will accompany some of the finest soloists from Scotland's top bands. Such a gathering of soloists of this calibre in one evening is thought never to have been previously presented in Scotland, and all areas of the brass band will be covered. In addition, Broxburn and Livingston is delighted to announce that the renowned composer, Paul Lovatt-Cooper, will conduct the band in his works and some ensemble features.

Performing on the night will be the current Scottish Solo Champion, Iain Fleming (tenor horn), along with Chris Bradley (cornet), Callum Tonner (soprano cornet), Alex Philip (trombone) and Graham Fraser (tuba) - all members of the Scottish Champion, Exchange Communications Whitburn Band.

From Kirkintilloch Band and the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS), Broxburn and Livingston is pleased to welcome Stephanie Mitchell. Stephanie plays repiano cornet with Kirkintilloch and is the current principal cornet of the NYBBS. Also from the NYBBS, we will be presenting percussionist, Ruaridh Neil, on drum kit. Ruaridh was awarded best student at the NYBBS Reserve Band summer course this year.

Performing on baritone will be Anne Crookston, one of the finest exponents of the instruments in the country having played with CWS (Glasgow) Band and, for many years, with Whitburn. Anne is currently performing with Co-operative Funeralcare Band and was recently appointed to the position of Resident Conductor of Exchange Communications Whitburn. Performing on euphonium will be Broxburn and Livingston's principal euphonium player, Stuart Gorringe, the current East of Scotland Solo Champion.

From the Co-operative Funeralcare Band, principal cornet, Jim Hayes, will play an item from his latest CD, Dial M for Midnight, and he will be joined by Caroline Farren on flugel horn, Paul Kiernan on trombone and Derek Love on Percussion.

Paul Lovatt-Cooper returns to Scotland to work with the band during what is a very busy period for him. His new work, Breath of Souls, will be used for the National Championships of Great Britain Final, held at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 15 October. Broxburn and Livingston conductor, Charlie Farren, commented: "We are delighted that Paul has found the time to come and work with the band. The whole event is to help in funding, and in preparation of, Broxburn and Livingston's appearance at the 1st Section National Final at Cheltenham at the end of September, and it promises to be a fantastic night of great entertainment for everyone."

The concert will take place in St. John Cantius and Nicholas Church, West Main St., Broxburn on 16 September, beginning at 7.30pm.
