More about our visitors...

St Helens Youth Brass Band was formed in 1979 and at the time was funded by the Education Authority. However subsequent budget cuts meant that the Band had to be re-formed as an independent charitable organisation. The Band has continued to develop and prosper under the administration of a committed and hard working parents' committee.  The Aim of the Band is to further the musical education of young brass and percussion players by means of concerts, competitions, tours and other activities.   Many of our players have gone on to play with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and several have progressed into some of the Country's premier bands.  There are currently over 70 young people between the ages of 8 and 19 years involved in all 3 bands (Beginners, Training and Youth).

St Helens Youth Brass Band has appeared with a number of high profile soloists including Sir Willard White, Roger Webster and Guy Barker, and has also taken part in events such as the Queen's Golden Jubilee Parade. New York, Paris, Italy, Switzerland, Ohio and London have all been visited by the Band on tour in recent years.  The Band recorded their latest CD 'Zenith in 2008 which received excellent reviews.

In July 2008 the Bands' Musical Director of 20 years, Lynda Nicholson, retired to pursue a new venture in Scotland. She was responsible for developing the Band into the successful organisation it is today and we are very grateful for the legacy she has left behind. In September 2008 the Band was delighted to welcome its new Musical Director, Mark Bousie, and we look forward to many years of continued success under his directorship.
