Get Your Entry in For Brass In The Park
Bands are reminded that the closing date for entries for the Contests at this year?s Brass in the Park event is 30 June 2005. The contests are open to all bands with the exception of those in the Championship section and non Scottish bands wishing to take part will be made most welcome.
This year?s contests will take place on Saturday 3 September and the venue will once more be the huge tented village specially erected in Newtongrange Park, just a few miles south of Edinburgh. Organisers are once more expecting bumper attendances with around 5,000 people attending over the course of the weekend in each of the last two years.
The contests have a total prize fund of ?3,000 with ?1,000 to the winning band in the open contest, ?500 to the second placed band and ?250 to the band in third place. There are also sectional awards of ?250 to the highest placed bands in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th sections and to the highest placed ?non contesting? or ungraded band.
Bands in the open contest will once more be required to play a march, a hymn tune and an item featuring a soloist. The performances of the soloists will be judged by a separate adjudicator with awards going to the best senior and junior soloists.
The highly popular Development Section contest for junior and training bands will again take place alongside the open contest with these bands being required to play a 15 minute own choice programme. The winning band in the Development Section will also receive ?250.
