1271 (Bathgate) Squadron Band Entertain at Squadron Burns Night

Tuesday 7 February 2017

The band of 1271 (Bathgate) recently entertained guests of their parent Squadron at their 5th  Annual Burns Night. The band performed for 30 minutes before dinner as guest arrived. A variety of music was played by the 12 piece ensemble which ranged from traditional Scottish Music, film music and even some music from the proclaimers. The band was received well by guests and Wing Commander Hayley (Officer Commanding West Scotland Wing ATC and Principle Guest for the evening) commented on the increased standard of performance from last year’s event.

Members of the band also performed a vocal version of Dougie McCleans Caledonia and a group of more advanced players performed Runrigs Loch Lomond following the traditional speeches after the meal. Band members were then able to relax and take part in the Ceilidh which followed the meal.

The band has recently received a donation from the Bathgate Community Centre Management Committee to purchase band supplies to help further enhance the training delivered to members. Tutor books, music stands, drum pads and some new music has been purchased and is due to arrive over the next few weeks.

The band are in high demand and have a busy start to 2017 entertaining at a variety of events and will perform to a variety of audiences in Central Scotland. The band are always looking for new members and anyone interested can contact Sgt (ATC) Dean Welsh by email (band.wscot@aircadets.org) for further information.
