Bathgate Band welcomes Copenhagen Brass this weekend

The Bathgate Band is looking forward to welcoming a Danish brass ensemble to the West Lothian town this weekend.

Copenhagen Brass, an established brass ensemble consisting of 12 brass players and percussion, arrives in Edinburgh later this week for a short, cultural visit to Scotland. Having made enquiries to get involved in some public performances through contact Russell Gray, the Bathgate Band stepped forward and have organised a joint concert this Saturday, 27 May.

By coincidence, the West Lothian Highland Games are taking part in Bathgate on the same day, and Bathgate Band has arranged for the Danish visitors to play a 45-minute slot at the pipe band contest, much to the delight of the visiting ensemble.

Copenhagen Brass spokesperson Ulrich Bang commented: “We are coming over to Scotland for a short break and were looking at opportunities to join up with some musical ensembles in the Edinburgh area. We are delighted that Bathgate has agreed to perform with us on the Saturday evening, and even more grateful that it has organised our involvement in the local pipe band contest. It will be a tremendous cultural experience for us to hear traditional Scottish music at first hand.”

Copenhagen Brass, which will be directed by Mogens Andresen, professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, will perform at the Highland Games from 12.45pm till 1.30pm before preparing for the evening concert with Bathgate. The free-to-enter concert, at which Russell Gray will conduct Bathgate, will take place at the Bathgate Partnership Centre from 7.00pm on Saturday, 27 May.
