Bands wanted for Soundsport
Brass bands have been given the opportunity to compete against other musical organisations.
BRASS bands in Scotland have been invited to pit their wits against ensembles from other musical genres in an innovative new contest format.
The Soundsport contest is due to take place in Bellahouston Sports Centre, Glasgow, on Saturday, May 21, and will enable bands to take part against instrumental ensembles of any set-up and ability.
Launched by Drum Corps International in 2014, Soundsport shows feature two categories: the DCI Soundsport and the Indoor Music Games.
Soundsport has no age restrictions and all instruments are legal. Teams have a block of 10 minutes for setting up, performing and leaving the performance stage. The standard Soundsport performance area is 20 yards deep by 30 yards wide.
All shows will feature a panel of three Drum Corps Europe accredited judges who provide feedback via an educational commentary to help teams with their development. The judges will deliberate to decide a “best of show” recipient. There will also be awards for the best youth group whose members are all 25 and younger, as well as the best cadet group whose members are all 16 and younger.
The Indoor Music Games section will be held in the same arena as the SoundSport section. Much of the criteria is the same as SoundSport, but it is aimed primarily at groups who intend to perform a full marching show.
IMG competitions feature three judges who adjudicate on music, visual and overall impression.
