TWO Fife bands shared the prizes at the Fife Solo and Ensemble Championships.

The event, which was held on Sunday, October 25, saw Carole Ednie, of Tullis Russell Mills Band come out on top in the senior slow melody competition. Alan Douglas, of Kingdom Brass, triumphed in the senior air varie competition at the championships, which were held in Tullis Russell Mills Band's rehearsal hall in Glenrothes.

Charlie Farren, adjudicator for the event, commented: "There was a consistent level of performance from all of the participants in the contest.

"In the under 12s, there was a stand-out winner and potentially, a future star. It was close between the top three in the intermediate contest, with a good level of solo difficulty on display. Although there was a small entry for the senior competitions, there was some fine playing on display. In the ensemble classes, all the groups played well and showed good discipline.

"All in all, it was a very enjoyable day with much for the Fife bands to be happy about for the years to come."

Qualifiers will now have the opportunity to take part in the Besson Scottish Solo and Ensemble Championships in 2016.
